Surfing with Michel Bourez " Au Coeur du Poulet" Episode 2

"In this second episode you will meet Tikanui Smith, a young and talented Polynesian surfer. Noticed at Teahuppo thanks to his energy and his commitment to critical maneuvers, Tika made the most of Michel Bourez's presence to train and nurture along-standing friendship.

Together they score a perfect left breaking on a reef awash.

The two friends are featured in this episode and the phrase "chicken heart" has never made more sense judging on their non-stop pull-in session."

Enjoy The Freedom, Dane Reynolds' Signature No Frills Boardshort

"Dane Reynolds and Craig Anderson spent some time cutting loose south of the border in one of Mexico's finest playgrounds. After a few waves, the boys settle in nicely with a few beers, tacos and visits from the locals.

"The excitement of hearing Mavericks Invitational Surf Contest 2013 was going to be held on Sunday January 20 was absolute music to my ears.  Not only was I not working that day, it was forecasted to be an amazing warm California day.  Being a local in-water photographer, passionate ocean lover, and of course slightly boy crazy over surfers had me stoked for the day.  Only one "minor" problem was at hand...
Mavericks isn't the usual surf contest where thousands flood to the local beach with their best bikini's, beer, and party hats on.  Mavericks surf break can be dangerous to anyone on the beach or overlooking cliffs.  Only a few options were at hand to watch the Mavericks Invitational Surf Contest, watch on-line, buy a $10 ticket to watch it on a big screen 1/2 a mile from the contest inland at a hotel, rent a boat at $1000 per person OR make new friends in the local harbor...

2do Place: Zach Wormhoundt

We headed through the boat docks casually chatting about the beautiful sunset we had just experienced when we walked up to a beautiful, majestic, massive vessel called the “Sea Gayle”.

A kind soft-spoken man, whom upon first meeting I could feel the love for the ocean and his boat pour through his veins, captained the Sea Gayle.  After a short look around the boat Sara blurted out "Any chance you are going to the Mav’s contest and need a few sexy ladies to join?"  My face instantly flushed red and my hands went hot.  The Captain named Curtis, smiled softly and said "yes I'm going up but the boat may be full."  I knew at this moment it was my only chance to chime in "Do you need a photographer on-board?"

Next thing I know I'm waking up at 4am, slightly loopy from the anti-nausea medication I took before bed to ward of seasickness and headed up to Mavericks for a full day of watching the best big waves surfers in the world!

1st Place: Peter Mel
Photo: Sarah Blincoe

Throughout the day at Mavericks there was amazing surfing.  Mark Healey cutting left, Peter Mel's rail grab, and of course because it's big wave surfing quite a bit of carnage. To truly understand the power behind Mavericks one must actually see it with their own eyes or better yet surf it.  Every single competitor at Mavericks deserves an immense amount of respect.  They respect the ocean and its power and in turn she provides perfect waves for them to go wild on.  The competition wrapped up leaving everyone in suspense wanting to know who would take 1st place.  The results were in and the crowd went wild with Santa Cruz legend Peter Mel taking 1st place. Second place went to Zach Wormhoundt  also a Santa Cruz local. 3rd to Greg Long of San Clemente. 4th Alex Martins of Brazil, 5th Mark Healey of Hawaii and 6th Shawn Dollar of Santa Cruz.  Everyone wrapped up the day with some awesome music from the Long Beach Dub Allstars and the stoke of the day was passed from person to person. My mind was filled with beautiful memories of the day before, amazing surfing, and quite possibly some of the most interesting friends I have made in a while.  Every surfer, spectator and new friend I made at Maverick’s 2013 all had one thing in common... we all have an immense and intense love for the ocean."
